Master of Design Project – 2024-2025
A research-led design project reimagining the Petone Community House through site-specific visual identity and branding. Rooted in local values and inspired by the metaphor of the Kahikatea tree, the project explores how design can foster community, spatial belonging, and cultural connection. Outcomes include a cohesive visual identity and spatial interventions guided by principles of koha, kaitiakitanga, manaakitanga, and wairua.

Design Process
For my Master’s project, I used the Double Diamond framework and a co-design approach to explore how branding and placemaking can strengthen community identity. Through research, workshops, and prototyping, I developed design interventions that reflected local voices and created a sense of belonging.
Key learnings:
How visual communication can act as a bridge, turning complex community needs into accessible, shareable outcomes.
That co-design is as much about building trust and relationships as it is about creating artefacts.
The value of adaptability — being open to iteration and feedback strengthened both the process and the results.
